Need help with chronic constipation
I want to first off say I'm very sorry for having to give some personal and gross information, I'm just so desperate for a solution. I have IBS, which causes constipation, but it seems that it gets worse with kratom. I'm already on such a low dose that I can't really lower my dose anymore, and I've tried taking breaks from it but honestly my anxiety and low energy without kratom makes it hard to do things I need to do. Plus it helps me not have cravings, which is mainly what has kept me clean as long as I have been. I've tried exercise, yoga, stool softeners, eating healthy, I even tried mixing kratom in applesauce, and nothing seems to work. Laxatives are the only things that work but they're so painful that I hate taking them. I know there has to be someone out there who has tried all the thing I've listed but found a different solution to their constipation.
BoMalley (our forum nurse 1 of 2 posting) has posted AT GREAT LENGTH on this topic. Do a search of her posts or "keeping things moving" I think it was called. We all pitched in ideas on an extra lengthy thread on this topic. I suggest you search ASAP. It's nothing to apologize for posting about AT ALL. It's part of the new life you shall continue to enjoy! Post here again if you can't find it. Even just search the word "moving" and you should find her excellent advice!

Oh wow, that was very informative and very helpful! I'm still getting used to this forum, and I'm glad my boyfriend told me to post about it. I can't believe I've never heard of seena or cascara sagrada. I'm going to look in the medicine aisle in Wal-Mart. I'm guessing it would be close to where you would find melatonin or vitamins
Do look. I think BoMalley gets her stuff from Amazon online. So get what you can FIND and order the rest. There are several comments in that thread for alternatives as well that might meet the IMMEDIATE NEED at WalMart for until you guys can get something for long term online. And don't forget to read the SITSA Bill info so we CAN EXPECT TO CONTINUE A LONG TERM HEALTH PLAN with the help of the leaf (that is not a synthetic analogue) but will likely be targeted as "unknown, so considered unsafe" for importation very easily under this Bull, I mean Bill

Oh that awesome you can get it off Amazon because my aunt has Amazon prime and I can get it shipped her with 2 day shipping. Yeah, me and my boyfriend signed a petition he got in an email just recently. It would be devastating because kratom has helped our recovery and we would without a doubt be still on heroin without kratom.
Yay for your mom, bomalley! 🙂
I had bad cramps from cascara sagrada when I tried it the first few times. Then an herbalist told me that there is a way they need to treat the herb to avoid this. Or maybe it was when they harvest it? I can't remember, but the brand she recommended did not cause cramping whatsoever. If anyone has this cramping problem they can PM me and I'll go look for the brand name. 🙂 And don't be afraid of trying it because of this post. It's just an individual thing. 🙂
I found out the HARD WAY that gluten free GO LIGHTLY fruit chews sweetened with Splenda ALSO have a serious laxative effect. They should be named GO CONSTANTLY! I bought them as a gift for a gluten intolerant friend along with a plant. I got myself a bag and YIKES, that changed the following TWO DAYS. Luckily I ate some before I gave such a GIFT. The plant was a fine enough gift! HAHA!
Thank you, BoMalley for reposting some of your wisdom for the new arrivers on the forum!

My Naturopathic Doctor suggests magnesium citrate, which gives the most magnesium. Anyway, most of us are deficient of this major mineral which is used all over our body.
One function is to relax muscles, which helps to end constipation. Take as much as your bowels will tolerate. I take 1200mg in the evening before bed and it relaxes me for sleep and then it's, "Bombs away!" in the morning. If you take too much, it will make you too loose, so just reduce the dose to what works. Then, you won't need to reduce your kratom dose to levels that aren't sufficient to manage whatever issue you take kratom for.
400mg gel caps are my favorite. Hope this works for you. I learned it from a doctor. I also find eating lots of vegetables, especially broccoli, and brown rice and no cheese and very little meat help keep things moving.
😉
I have the same habit Paul does. In my case I take 2 magnesium citrate of 500mg each night at bedtime with my melatonin. I change it a bit, depending on what was consumed that day, but I hadn't really considered the muscle relaxing component consciously, but that does make a huge difference. 'Splains why things don't go smoothly when I had a day filled with stress. I also clench my muscles without being aware of it A LOT. Definitely a contributing factor with my bad back!
