Does using potentiates increase tolerance?
My friend on this board and I have both found information stating that using supplements to potentiate kratom can increase tolerance. I'm hoping someone here has info to counter that because I like some of my supplements that happen to potentiate kratom, but it would be a very sad day if kratom didn't work like it has. The website that stated this did not offer any references or even reasoning to back up this claim. Any thoughts?

My tolerance has crept up while using potentiator, but I think it's an unrelated fact because I'm burning more appropriate amounts to manage pain better (and getting more physical activity in that also reduces pain and improves my health). Since I've been burning consistently without a break for a year now (many years before that were sporadic because I used opiates), my burning has doubled to a good tsp and a half in the AM (versus 3/4 tsp 6 months ago) and a full tsp every 3 hrs until 5PM. So it COULD be true, but it's not logical. Tolerance SHOULD be reduced or unchanged with use of potentiator.

PS: great question for the forum, I'll have to raise your karma! LOL

Woohoo! ;o)
I agree that it doesn't make sense... I just wish there was more information on the subject. I do appreciate the peoples' experience on this board, and that's why I ask. 🙂 I did read something about a drug or something used to potentiate opiates, and I can't imagine people risking their prescriptions not working properly if that's what potentiates do in that case. But... I really am clueless.
Thanks for sharing your experience with having to up the dose for pain. I was afraid to do that at first, but I'm glad I did. Good thing is that the mild muscle pain and anxiety/depression relief has never needed anything more than my initial 1/2 tsp dose even after taking twice as much for a while. Still, I want to make good decisions regarding tolerance.

Guess what?! I goofed! By having increased my burns, I've been needing more naps! Duh! Back to 3/4 tsp at a pop and I'm FINE again. Live and learn - NOW I know how to use the leaf for relaxation! :O

So I *think* I've figured this one out. Some potentiates work by keeping the compounds in your system longer (liver enzyme inhibitors), which would cause the receptors to down regulate like when you dose more often. But other potentiates (NMDA antagonists) also work to keep your receptors from down regulating, so they shouldn't be a problem. I think that's it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I found this information very interesting - https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23455576#23455576
Tons of info on potentiates.
Edit - I don't know if that link is allowed. Let me know if it's not and I will remove it.
