Tramadol
I have used tramadol for chronic back pain and depression for 4 years. I take 100-200mg nightly. I also use norco for breakthrough pain. No big deal other than the stigma attached. The tramadol keeps me safe in a crazy life of 4 busy kids. Due to a recent hysterectomy, I have used my tramadol more than usual. I can only get 60 per month and am running out. The last time this happened, the withdrawal was awful. This time around I am going to use kratom. I have a bunch of capsules to use. I am praying it keeps the withdrawal at bay. I really have no desire to quit my tramadol. (I guess that makes me an addict.) The biggest problem is running out and having to wait for refills. I feel like I should stop it because of the stigma and government regulations. I have tried kratom. I like the energy. I don't notice any true relaxing effects or euphoria which is probably a good thing. It is too expensive to use too much. Anyways, I came here for advice and just to have someone to talk to. No one I know knows about my tramadol use so I can't talk to anyone about it.

Welcome to the group, Mollybolly.
That’s great that you have a plan. Kratom is a perfect choice for replacing your tramadol.
If the capsules you got and/or tried are not from a good supply, you won’t notuce anything but a lighter wallet.
There’s a vetted vendor list here (scroll up and right with a device larger than a phone to see it).
Capsules also slow down the delivery of alkaloids.
Since you’re taking opiates of any kind (even tramadol), your tolerance is likely on the high side.
Finally, you were right to say you won’t feel much besides less pain and minor mood lift. It’s subtle. Euphoria is a myth UNLESS you abuse extracts for a short while. You CAN get yourself into trouble chasing the dragon with it. I would NOT recommend it. But it’s being done. Abuse of any substance won’t help anyone.
Here’s a thought for next time you fill your tramadol script: try replacing a day of tramadol with kratom. Do that every other day. You could likely lower tolerance, treat pain BETTER (we gotta make sure you got good kratom still), and have tramadol TO SPARE at the end of the month.
Betcha you’d solve the issue AND with guidance from the rest of the group, you can get some good product for this project.
Chew on it until more people post. Welcome to the best Kratom forum ever.

I thought I typed a reply earlier, but don't see it. I am really struggling with this forum and site. Idk if it is because I am on my phone or what.

When you take too long (computer opinion of too long) typing, it logs us out.
I recommend using copy to yourself in an email and then copy to here (just for the longer posts that help the members know more about you to be of better help).
The website has been under construction with upgrades and some features still have not returned to this website yet. Like “keep me logged in”. I miss THAT button A LOT!
Hang in there. Try again when you feel up to it.

This it?
“I work at a hospital. I usually log onto their wifi on my personal cell phone. Today when I tried to open this page it was blocked because it fell into the category of abused drugs. I can look up and read all about any narcotic, but not kratom. I am dumbfounded that it was blocked.“

I took tramadol off and on for 13 years.
I started with Ultracet, which was then *replaced* with tramadol .... I never took over 200-250 mg on VERY bad days.
2 months ago, I stopped Tramadol completely, replacing my dosage with kratom.
I had withdrawals that SHOCKED me!!
Went to the Doc yesterday - and have been having a painful week - he gave me a script for Tramadol with no refills. I have been undergoing some very, very painful treatments for several broken bones/ankle/foot issues after a 16 foot fall off a ladder.
Doc told me to *save* the script .... only use when necessary.
Kratom works better, actually, especially if I take two tylenol along with my dose.
I did not have a good experience with that long term tramadol use. The w/ds? Awful.
I wonder if the formula Tramadol is different from Ultracet?
Good luck!

Once again, I’m horrified by politics’ affects on Doctor/patient care. Tramadol? Easy on the use? None of that has ANYTHING to do with your injury. None.
Dam good thing you advocate for yourself, Teeswaran. With this forum and our “staff RN” (with a back-up member also!) on call, we really have got things pretty well compared to the majority of society that refuses to believe in anything beyond pharmaceutical symptom relief.

Hey Laurie,
In fairness to my physician (an Osteopath), he prescribed the Tramadol for the excruciating pain I am suffering due to Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy - a rather enlightened treatment for fascia, tendons, ligaments and multiple bone breaks, etc. This particular course (I am on my 3rd round) is over my ankle bone ... ow!) has been very harsh. Hopefully, that will translate into later relief.
I have also had Platelet Rich Plasma injections for severe arthritis in my shoulder (I wielded a hammer for decades). I had multiple issued, including tendon tears and frayed membranes covering the bones. AC joint was messed up. Worked to relieve pain 85%.
Of course, insurance does not cover any of these therapies.
I actually learned about Kratom from my Doctor!
But - I do agree that the political marital bed shared by our government, big Pharma and insurance has been very detrimental to the very humanity that is claimed to be "served".
It seems that each of those entities are able to practice medicine and wield alarming power over physicians.
It is all *bulls&it!* and ridiculous!
Thanks again for all the support here - I do appreciate it!
Best,

All of that is a rather big deal! Combined?! Wow!
My beef is with tramadol. I found little benefit (it helped like an ibuprofen or two), and after trying it for 3 days, I was addicted! This was a long time ago. I don’t recall the dose or purpose (I know, helpful ?).
In my crazy head, it’s basically BS medication with a high addiction rate?! I guess it actually helps with pain?!
That’s where I went off the rails. BS Medicine. I’m in recovery and I would prefer a few DAYS of opiates over tramadol (with careful measures in place! I have an emergency plan in place, if I was to lose another arm and another leg, for IF I am to require opiates).
Isn’t tramadol a synthetic opiate agonist? Maybe that’s why I didn’t get any relief? Aha
That’s a big fall!! At our ages! Even Judge Judy says the best advice she ever got was from her doctor: don’t fall!
That was before opiates disappeared. Wonder where all the Afghanistan poppies are sold...? We promised to buy them. Where do they go now?
Now here these days, they say to put ice on your broken leg and don’t come back with anything related to pain. Ever. <——exaggeration (I probably should have posted this under VENTING. But that thread is about Syria. Then I just get upset about powerlessness.,.. )
yada yada yada
Sorry I lumped tramadol in a pile of useless and dangerously addicting category. Good thing you straightened me out. I really did think it was unsafe (addiction almost immediately) and useless.
I’m just glad you’re receiving proper care for your injuries. And our other ailments ongoing...
Not a fan of unnecessary pain.
This forum continues to teach me important lessons! Very cool. Thanks

Laurie,
Tramadol is a very dangerous drug. I have read that it has an antidepressant in the formula, as well as a synthetic opiate.
That is why I wonder if the original Ultracet had a different formulation? At least it contained acetaminophen.
But, I agree - a few days of *real* opiates are a better choice for pain control.
I am just shaken by the state of our government and medical care these days.
And now, Syria ....
Thanks again for all of your support.

I think ALL of us in this thread are better off now than we were!
Let’s not forget the hello we went through to find this leaf and tinker with it!
We’re better off mentally (we have learned a lot together) and physically (we’ve all improved or TRY EVERY DAY ALMOST- aside from ladder falls!) a good deal by sharing our trials and tribulations here.
Too bad nobody can do the legwork for the next generation (newbies) with the leaf. Each person has to have their own variables and experiences.
It never gets boring here! There’s always support from experience here.
I dump everything on you guys and then try to smile and stretch often. Thanks to you all for sharing the ride.
EDIT: OMG 😮 2025 posts
Have a wee bit better day!
I take tramadol for neuropathy nerve pain, but it barely works at all anymore. I know I'm not supposed to take it at the same time as kratom, tho i tried kratom a few times before I learned that, and it just had zero effect, otherwise no adverse interaction. Would anybody have any idea how long u r supposed to be off tramadol before trying kratom?
