Interview with Chris the Owner of Christopher's Organic Botanicals
ILK: Tell us a bit about yourself and how you came to know kratom products?
Chris:Β Β My name is Chris. I was looking for other natural products other than Cannabis that would help me live a less painful lifestyle.Β That is when I started looking seriously into natural alternatives like Kratom. Kratom has been one of those plants that I wish I would have known about when I was younger. I was hit by a car at 8 years old while crossing the street, and that began the problematic life that I know today. Between 8 and 13 I went through about 40 dislocations of my knees, requiring my first surgery at 13 and second at 22. Kratom has been a God Send. Cannabis wasnβt a good option since most decent jobs required a drug test
ILK: How long were you a customer of Kratom Products before you decided to start your own brand?
Chris: I found out about Kratom in 2015. I did order from the few vendors online at that time, but I was also ordering from ebay. I noticed that all orders came in a ziplock bag with the name of the product written in Magic marker. I was so impressed by the way Kratom worked for me that I was thinking about how this can be done better. Where is it packaged? Tested? Etc⦠I started many conversations with harvesters in Indonesia trying to find the best quality and making sure the product was clean. I wasted a lot of money and time, but eventually found the right team.
ILK: What was the key driving force to start your own company? What drives you to continue?Β
Chris: Making sure that products are quality, tested, packaged, and clean for everyone that uses them each day. My whole family uses Kratom, so we want everyone to feel like family and have products they can be proud to share.
ILK: Your Company seems to have a loyal customer base. You donβt need to tell us all your secrets but could you share a bit of how that came to be?
Chris: We always tried to keep prices within reason and have email, text, and phone available for customers to contact us if there is a problem. We never cut corners and that means a bit of a higher cost in the long run. We finally were able to lower prices back a bit once we were able to secure a larger shipment and a reduced price. That brings savings to the customer. We now added a Points & Rewards system that gives 10% back on every purchase. We know how much kratom has helped all of us and just love to share that passion with all of our customers.
ILK: What is the culture like within your company? What would your employees say about you?
Chris: We all use kratom for various reasons and truly know how much this plant has changed our lives. There are only 4 of us that handle everything and We truly are a small family-run business. Employees would say that I can be a workaholic that does his best for the kratom community and kratom industry.
ILK: What is the typical day like for the owner of a Kratom vendor?
Chris: I am on the computer as soon as I wake up checking things out to make sure everything is operational and checking emails. If we are in the middle of production there will be days filled with counting and loading products on the shelves. We work with a co-packer and time is spent there to make sure production goes smoothly without any issues. Reading testing results to ensure everything is perfect. Talking to customers about kratom is one thing I love to do and try to do as often as I can.
What are the Most Popular Products?
ILK: What are your go-to strain and a typical dose? What is your choice way of taking kratom?
Chris: I Like to mix them half white Mahakam half red Maeng da or whatever half and half works best. Powdered Kratom in warm water and drink it like tea.
ILK: Do you have a favorite Kratom Recipe?
Chris: Blends are great and I always like coming up with new combinations. I just use kratom as a tea in warm water. One type of kratom may not work as well for me, but when I mix it the blend seems to work great.
ILK: How do you see the industry unfolding over the next couple of years? What can people do to help?
Chris:Β I believe the Kratom industry is heading in the right direction. Laws are being passed To protect kratom. The science is being done that shows kratom is safe. Bans were officially withdrawn. Kratom has to be Tested, Packaged, and Stored the correct way.
That will ensure that Kratom stays safe and the FDA doesnβt have any more ammunition. People can help further Kratom by making sure that they talk to people. Tell your story and let people see how much kratom has made a positive impact on your life. Talk to legislators and local community leaders about kratom. I joined every chamber of commerce and talked to all of them about kratom and how it has changed my life. Support the American Kratom Association and watch out for the calls to action. If it was up to me Kratom would have never been in the spotlight as a bad thing and would have received the honor it deserved years ago. Many more lives would have been saved.
ILK: What are some issues that you can see with the Kratom Industry?
Chris: Everyone in the Industry should really care about Kratom and have Kratomβs best interest in mind. Kratom needs to be sustainable and workers in Indonesia need to be paid a fair wage. We always made sure this was the case from the start. There are plenty of kratom vendors that truly care about this plant because it changed their lives. The more we care about the sustainability of Kratom the better the Kratom industry will be as a whole.
ILK: What would you say to someone new to kratom or someone who is interested but has not tried it yet?
Chris: Take it slow and less is more. I always laugh and say my selling point is that: It tastes like dirt, but it works.
ILK: Tell us a secret about kratom or the industry?
Chris: There arenβt really any secrets that I am Aware of besides strains being names and blends. We just list the region and color. Our kratom is wild harvested. I can tell when I blend my own cup of kratom each time I do it a bit differently it affects me a bit different.
ILK: Do you take any other natural supplements? If so, what would you recommend?
Chris: I take a multivitamin and protein shake from Thrive.
ILK: How do you feel about the American Kratom Association?
Chris: I have supported the American Kratom Association since the beginning. They have grown from a great grassroots organization to a serious group that has Kratomβs Best interest in mind.
Β ILK: What should a kratom customer look for to find a proper vendor?
Chris: I would have to say that Quality, Customer Service, Testing, Handling, Packaging, Loyalty Programs, and finally Price should be the deciding factors.
ILK: Has Kratom improved your quality of life? If so, how?Β
Chris: I was prescribed opiates from 8 years old until my late 20βs on and off for surgeries and dislocations of my knees. I didnβt know about Kratom. Kratom would have saved about 20 years of my life from being a slave to Opiates and Alcohol.
