Hamilton Morris is the creator and host of the Vice TV documentary series “Hamilton’s Pharmacopeia,” now in its third season.
Joe Rogan has covered the topic of Kratom twice in the last few years. The first The Joe Rogan Experience #1136 Hamilton Morris in 2018 and again at The Joe Rogan Experience #1296 in 2019.
Hamilton Morris, host of Pharmacopeia on Vice, joined Joe to discuss his show and the topic of Kratom.Β
Joe is, obviously, open minded and covers every topic that you can think of. One obvious point to make is that the fact that this plant has appeared on several mainstream media shows, means that a fair amount of people are familiar with the legal food supplement. Another point to make is that finding good information about the product can sometimes be challenging, which is why these features are so important.
Itβs interesting how similar the challenges have been for Kratom in relation to the Medical Marijuana industry. Although these products are nothing alike, it seems absurd that Kratom, which comes from the coffee family, met so many challenges. These began in early 2012 – 2013 as the product became more popular in the US. This, not unlike most popular supplements, had to go through its growing pains. The difference is the intensity of the push back. Good points are made over and over again concerning the botanical Mitragyna Speciosa, which is that in comparison to everyday aspirin, the medical related issues are dwarfed by comparison.Β

The best way to describe Kratom is a great alternative to your daily coffee. In moderate amounts it gives you energy like coffee does, but lacks the caffeine crash that weβre all familiar with. If you look through the complaints, at first, they sound serious until you read further into them and then it looks like a smear campaign. The negative numbers do not add up and pail in comparison to commonly used consumables like alcohol, aspirin, and so forth. The other great part about this tree leaf is that itβs multi-purpose. For example, some people use it as an energy supplement for pre-workout, while others use it to relax after a hard day’s work by increasing the intake to a larger dose. It does not suppress the respiratory system, and the most common complaint with those who use it more than 3 times per week is mild constipation if their water intake is not well balanced.
Like any other product that enters the consumer market, there is generally a small to moderate offset which may impact other industries such as energy drinks, coffee, chiropractic services, etc. I bring up the chiropractic services because there was, in fact, a case where a local chiropractor blamed a new Kratom company for negatively impacting his practice and made it his primary focus to get the supplement banned, as he thought this would help him maintain his numbers. Itβs obvious that if this chiropractor was a trained business analyst he might have started with analyzing other factors, such as changes in insurance coverage, or his own localized market, age ranges and growth.Β
