Hi all, wanted to share my story and hope to get some feedback
So I had heard about kratom a while back but didn't pay too much attention as I was busy using other things. I've reached the point where I'm ready to try it and have a red strain as well as a green maeng da on the way.
I tend to ramble and go into detail. I'll try to keep it as short as I can.
I grew up a very nervous/anxious kid. The kind of kid who'd have a full on meltdown if something was out of order with my day, generally regarding people. Say there was a substitute bus driver, I'd have a full on anxiety attack because I was afraid he wouldn't know where I lived and I'd never get home.
Move forward to age 12. After a month of anxiety/panic attacks, hospital trips and super confused and concerned parents I landed with a psychiatrist who diagnosed me with generalized anxiety disorder, OCD, panic disorder and depression. Went on Luvox and Ativan until age 19 when I aged out of my father's insurance. Also learned later that Luvox interfered with my development as a, uh, dude.
Stayed off head meds for a while. Had never tried any recreational stuff, as DARE, with its methods, really lands with a kid who's already anxious as crap.
Mid-20s I start to ease my view on recreational drugs. I was in the midst of having a large scale tattoo done and had a friend throw me a few Lortab saying they'd help make the tattoo a little easier to get thru. This is true. What was also true was it made me feel better than any prescribed antidepressant I'd ever been on. And I'd tried a lot.
So for the next 8 years I did a lot of experimenting with opioid painkillers. They made me feel like the person I thought I was supposed to be. No longer a painfully shy introvert who beat himself down all the time but a happy, social, talkative person who found joy in everything.
I went on and off them as the supply chains would run out. I'd have a few days of feeling crappy and then I'd move on. Everything was oral, never banged anything, snorted here and there but just swallowing them really worked for me. Doses were never super excessive either.
I ran thru the gamut with the types out there, tabs, oxy's, percs, vicodin, opana, you name it. I ended up being prescribed benzos at one point and that kept the supply chain moving as friends would want to trade for those.
I'd have to say my worst experience was a month with methadone. Treated them just like regular pills. Bad idea. After they were gone I spent 3 weeks climbing the walls, barely sleeping and bowing to the porcelain throne every morning. Lesson learned right?
For about a month, maybe. Then along came suboxone. They made me feel even better. I tried to keep those under control because too much made me sick on a few occasions. The network and supply chain kept on rolling. Finally a friend convinced me to see a clinic to get my own prescribed. Tried that. Jumped thru numerous hoops, still no date with the doctor.
So now the well has run dry and it's a fact I've been denying for months but I did what I said I wouldn't do and became dependant on them. I tried to rationalize that a med is a med when you remove all the barriers around any med. I'd had so many prescribed antidepressants not work for me over the years but subs did, so why couldn't they be for me?
None the less...here I am about a week into sub wd's. I had a few opiate pills to help stave off the wd's for a bit and figured when those were gone I'd be in decent shape. I'd maybe be hurting a little but not too bad.
Wrong again. Sleep sucks, sides and back hurt like he'll, energy is so low I run out of breath walking from one room to the next. Sucks. And I kick myself for putting myself and my SO thru it again.
So I recalled kratom and started doing my homework. Made a couple orders yesterday, hope to have them in a couple days. A red strain to help with wd's and the green to help with mood. I want to be smart with this stuff and try to have it eventually replace the psychotropic meds I get.
I'm not wigged out about bitter tastes (ever had a sub strip?) so the toss & wash seems like the route I'll go until I learn how to do teas and whatnot.
Any feedback or similar stories people can share? I see way more positive experiences than negative so that's what drew me to it .
Genuinely trying to get my crap together and I hope this stuff helps. Any words of wisdom or support are greatly appreciated.
Apologies for the length. It's a lot to get out in the open.
Welcome to the forum! I use Kratom to help with pain from migraines and a degenerative disc, so my story is a lot different than yours.
When researching this plant I read a lot of stories of it helping people with withdrawals, and I think you made a great first step placing an order. Good luck, and let us know how your first time goes!
I plan to share how it goes. Thanks for the response. It's never fun going thru this but I read so many positives about kratom I figured I should give it a shot. Both orders shipped today so I should have them soon.
Sounds like you chose some nice starters. They are mixable, so you might want to create your own to help you get through the rest of your detox (it takes longer than anyone tells you, perhaps less unbearable at times, compared with using kratom to get off heroin, etc.
Depending on your bodies metabolism, the number of dosing times changes. I needed it every 2-4 hrs after detoxing was basically done, whereas now I use mine in the morning and sometimes a second dose midday. Sleep might not be helped at all, so be sure you don't use much (if any) at night, and only use reds for sleep. You want to watch out for taking too much, because after detoxing, you'll need EVEN LESS than your first tiny try. A teaspoon of each at first should be adequate to give you an idea as to how it can help you. It WILL help with clarity, too! Many of us chose opiates for energy and clarity to be productive - until that stops (and it's risky and expensive). I can't wait for your first post after you try it, Ham. The first time IS the BEST time if you're careful not to take too much. I recommended this amount to keep you from over-trying. You can ALWAYS take more, so after 40 minutes, if you don't feel any change, try another teaspoon or two. The greens alone did best in my metabolism for completing detox. The greens ALSO helped the detox "blues" fade away. THAT is why we love the plant. The mood lift ALONE is worth it. I still have pain, but I'm more able to exercise and participate in the community WITH SOME PAIN and ENJOY participating in society more. From your post, I'm guessing that will be a mighty welcome change in your life. Best wishes!
Have a wee bit better day!
Thanks for the support! Definitely appreciated during these times.
The time has really just come to move on from the opiates. I've bounced on and off of them for the last 8 years and I'm sure going thru the bouts of wd's and stuff hasn't done anything good for my body.
Thanks for the comments on the strains. I did my homework and found two reputable vendors. Usually I'm a skeptic on a natural remedy being able to aide in wd's or duplicate some of the mood elevating effects but I read so much more positive than negative that I just went for it.
I'd love to be able to keep my mood up with this stuff. I've had what feels like a pharmacy's worth of head meds thrown at me over the years and none ever really did much. To be able to replace those chemicals with something natural and still achieve the desired effect would be great.
The stuff is on its way, either Thursday or Friday so I'm just grinding thru. It's hard not to feel like a bucket of suck during this but to help it the routine I usually go with is plenty of water, some vitamins, ginger root, green tea, I drink protein shakes because my appetite is dead right now anyway and generally just try to take it easy. I gotta work my full time job while doing it so that's not always easy but I just gotta get to Thursday.
I'm excited to see how it all works out. I did read that alternating strains every other or every couple days is good because it won't build up a tolerance as quickly.
Any other strains/vendors I should be looking at? Aside from help with detoxing I'd like to be able to use kratom going forward to lessen my anxiety (and rely less on benzos, prescribed, btw, never have I ever enjoyed those things in a recreational sense, purely to avoid an anxiety attack or if I really can't sleep) and also help with stress and mood. Generally just something to keep me centered and not so up and down all the time. A nice floaty euphoric feeling is always a joy as well, so if anyone wants to point me in the direction of strains like that, let me know! And of course everyone's reactions are different but there are usually some strains that seem to say the majority of people who tried this achieved the effects it promised.
Thanks again, fine people! If this stuff is as helpful as so many say it is then they have no right in making it illegal.
Hi again, Ham. So good to hear you are able to manage to WORK while doing all this. I did work for much of it, but getting off Oxys required me to be in bed almost constantly for 10 days and took a toll on me, physically. For several reasons, including the fact that my body was in shock.
I still have bad days. But they are "normal" bad days that mortal people have. Kratom - for me - is a lifelong commitment to keep my brain on straight. It somehow regulates the wiring I was born with, making me closer to society's version of "normal".
Getting euphoric is complicated with kratom. It's not like you're "high". It's a mood lifter, but to get high, you'll need to look elsewhere. I use THC/CBD oil to get "high" a little bit and it helps me START sleeping. Lifestyle changes, like getting in bed at the same time each evening, turning off gadgets after a certain time PRIOR to sleeping helps me get QUALITY rest with rem and dreams and stuff, which is ALSO helpful for functioning. The protein drinks are a perfect thing to go WITH kratom. Large meals will wipe out kratom - in my case. So I eat one regular meal near the end of the day and I am naturally exhausted enough to get in bed at a reasonable time. It took work to figure that out. Many people swear by the reds for sleep, but I'm not easily able to sleep (hence chronic fatigue, which is better MOST OF THE TIME).
Kratom is not going to make you feel high (after about 2 weeks, the romance is over, but the long term relationship with kratom now is allowing for a functional life. You'll see. The first two weeks are like a honeymoon with the love of your life. After that, it's like any marriage. The lust goes away, but the love remains in tact. And satisfying - unlike some marriages. Expect the initial feeling to make you fall in love. Then you can do exactly as you said, use it going forward.
Some people are able to quit for a week or more to get SOME of the lust back. I've done it. But I'm finding that a regulated mood is more important than that lust. This must sound ridiculous. I'll delete it after you've seen it. I don't want to leave such an absurd sounding post on display permanently online. But I thought you should know that. Also, if you're a drinker, be careful. Alcohol and kratom don't go well together for most. My kratom family of friends typically don't bother drinking anymore. It's not necessary anymore, and hangovers seem like a very STUPID waste of time. You'll probably notice some days are your most productive and energized (like a Starbucks binge, without the jitters if done right), but some days will have normal laziness, where watching TV or reading and chilling are still required.
Look at alternatives for getting high. Kratom doesn't do that. Check the forums for getting high suggestions that work safely with kratom. I've found only THC/CBD to get me a little high, which also stokes the appetite. Finally, kratom is dehydrating (like coffee), so you'll want to stock up on electrolytes. I get mine in powder form and mix the electrolytes in my kratom. And then I drink water, or electrolyte water ALL DAY. So you'll also probably have opiate-like constipation, but not as bad. Plenty of quality food and water are necessary. I'm injured, but some days I feel like I can be a weight lifter (for example), other days I need to be lazy and watch YouTube (or whatever goofy stuff you enjoy when relaxed).
I can't wait to hear about your upcoming honeymoon.
Have a wee bit better day!
Thank you, Aimee. I appreciate your having my back on that goofy explanation.
I hope Ham reports back soon, so I can delete it (trying to cut down on long winded posts!)
Have a wee bit better day!
Do you know what brought me to a second honeymoon?
I started to couple mine with Amino Energy.
After reading that the amino's in quayusa tea are what make the duration and potency of the caffeine so effective (those beautiful compounds working together in nature) I decided to try it and it really is incredible the new life it has breathed into...well duration and potency. 😛
That's very interesting? Do you have a particular source for this Amino Energy, Toad?
Have a wee bit better day!
Hello. Sorry it's taken me some time to respond. Life happens, people get busy, everyone knows how that goes.
So I had my orders delivered the other week, a red vein strain called Red October and a green maeng da.
It took some time to get a chance to try this stuff because I was still messing around with other things. Those other things are probably preventing me from feeling the full effects of the kratom bit here are my experiences so far.
I went for the toss & wash method with the green maeng da. I actually mixed it with some water and ended up with a paste. Tossed it back as quickly as I could and just relaxed to await the affects. About a half hour in I started to feel the warm tingly sensation and I was like, alright, feels good, man, feels good.
But then about 5 minutes after that I got hit with a rush of heat, sweating and nausea. I did the T&W on an empty stomach like I had read...but I didn't take into account that the alkaloids can really mess with your stomach. The powder just kinda sits there like a rock. The nausea was bad enough where I had to visit my friend Mr. Green to get rid of it.
A few days later I tried a tea method and used a smaller amount of the maeng da. I was granted about an hours worth of a decent warming sensation with some mental clarity and an overall decent mood.
From there I've kinda bounced back and forth from what I've been using to the kratom. I know that's keeping me from feeling all the effects but I'll get there.
I tried a red strain this morning and it produced a similar sensation to the tea (I did toss and wash while plugging my snout). I ordered a white strain after reading lots of good things and look forward to trying that. I also went ahead and ordered empty capsules because I can't get past the taste with this stuff. I'm gonna try a protein shake with it soon and see how that goes.
Any feedback is welcome. Everyone here seems very cool and willing to share their advice and experiences.
In general I'd like to use kratom going forward as a mood enhancer and anxiety reliever. Again, any advice in terms of strains or methods of use are welcome. I've been reading plenty and like most things I have to find my sweet spot in terms of how much and which method but so far so good I think.
I have found it at Costco for the best price. My sister ordered some online for a little more expensive.
That stuff all around boosts dopa but L-theanine itself is also pretty great it helps things like caffeine to go across the blood brain barrier and it has a very calming effect for anxiety on its own. Again just evening out those brain chemicals when you're all in flux and searching for something is good.
That alone you can get much cheaper at powder city for a good price.
I recently found a cheaper source and I forget the site but powder city does all of the extensive testing regularly for purity etc. just like your favorite vendors. ;D
I just looked up a link and they say basically the same thing about it. Lol. Good to know I'm not crazy.

Welcome Toad and Hamsolo-
Thank you for sharing your experiences. Every story is different, including the Kratom journey 🙂
It's great to hear feedback - very glad it's good (but ALL feedback is good).
Please keep us posted on your adventures. Send any questions out, there are many people here to answer them.

Hello Hangfire,
Thanks for the best reading on the forum here in quite some time! Bravo!
I also wonder how artichokes were discovered. How did someone know those prickly things could be made to taste so good?
Have a wee bit better day!
Hey everyone. I'm still hangin in there. I definitely appreciate the feedback and common ground shared with others who have used kratom to ease symptoms of withdrawal.
So I'm about a week off of suboxone. For a while now I've been able to trade things I get for those things. Subs have worked better than any antidepressant medication I've ever been prescribed and I've gone thru quite a few different ones in my lifetime. To be able to feel just totally fine with everything is a feeling that doesn't really come natural for me. I've kind of always looked at my use of subs as something I'm choosing to do in lieu of standard treatment for my issues. At the end of the day a medication is a medication and if I want to use something not prescribed for me then that's my choice and my risk to take. Luckily I've always been able to control my desires and have always told myself that the use of subs can stop at anytime since I don't have a prescription.
But...I understand fully that it's not healthy to keep bouncing back and forth and putting my body thru wd's every few months. As of right now I plan to stay off of them for a while so it can clear out of my system. Down the road I can't say for sure if I'll ever use them again. I may acquire a few and put them away for rainy days or fun occasions.
In the meantime I've bought a good little handful of different strains of kratom and have been using that all week to help ease the wd symptoms. I've found that the greens and reds both have a similar effect on me. I would definitely agree with Laurie (I think?) in that there isn't much in the way of a euphoric feeling with kratom but it does elevate my mood, make me want to be social and talkative and certain green strains get me up and moving around the house. I still haven't found a way to completely mask the taste of this stuff. I get dark chocolate almond milk and mix it with the kratom and it's not the worst but the taste still comes thru. All in all its been pretty helpful in keeping my mood up and my mental state in pretty good shape. Whereas before without any kratom and just kicking off subs cold turkey would provide me with about a week's worth of mood swings and less control over emotions.
Where it hasn't provided much relief is in physical symptoms. Still, I'd rather hurt physically than mentally. However, my kidneys are taking a beat down right now. If anyone has any remedies to relieve kidney pain, let me know.
Thanks again to everyone who's shared their stories and provided feedback, much appreciated.
Thanks for Sharing your Story with us Hamsolo19.

Sounds like you are a quick learner, Ham. I think the word, euphoria, is overused with kratom, BUT there is no word to describe the feeling of relief from pain and despair. Emotionally. That can be quite "euphoric" versus battling pain and depression sans kratom (of any strain) in my experience. My pain is reduced a bit, but not enough to fully function as often as I would like (I still can't PLAN AHEAD to feel well enough to make commitments to activities I enjoy because of the daily "surprise" as to how kratom is able to combat mental demons). And the need to control pain is often left to OTHER means still, so it's not a problem solver or a cure, but it is hand over fist, the most effective depression "medicine", and I've tried them all (in the SSRI category). Having a mood lift, WITH CLARITY INTACT, can make physical pain much easier to endure. This is all of MY OWN experience, and we all respond differently. I have made drip coffee with 50/50 (half coffee, half kratom) and if you like a cup of joe in the morning, I can tell you a good espresso coffee completely and fully, drowns out any sign of kratom "taste". It tastes like - coffee. Only. I hope that helps someone with the gagging reflex some struggle with. Me, I mostly mix it with an electrolyte powder in a water bottle, shake and chug. It's a matter of life and death as far as my psychological reliance on kratom for help with depression. It ALSO helped a good deal for getting off of opiates. Kratom controls my opiate cravings, therefore, I am now able to use them in minimal doses and for emergency pain only. Like, how my dr intended. That is a bonus prize. And it's significant. It also makes a majority of us view alcohol as a waste of time in life. I haven't touched a drop in 3 years, thanks at least in part, to kratom. One try convinced me that a choice may be made. Being more social with kratom use makes being more social with alcohol use seem "stupid" for me (but I was a bad alcoholic for 20 years, so that's why I use such a word, not to offend anyone who enjoys both). It's stupid FOR ME - I choose kratom. Not every day is happy and jovial. That's just life. Being sober and clean while using kratom does not wash away problems temporarily while in a stupor or hung over. We are stuck facing life, but the obstacle of depression is lightened enough to keep trying another day :). So glad you are getting some medicinal benefit, Ham. That is key. Those who say kratom has no medicinal use, they are smoking something else and aren't educated. And they probably weren't born with depression (we know who we are). Sounds like you figured out the true "euphoria" in being OK TODAY 🙂 great news, indeed!
Have a wee bit better day!
Kratom is not going to get you High by any means like Opiates will. It will lift your mood, give you energy, relax you depending on the Strain & Color or Blend & has many other health benefits. Taking Kratom is just an All-Natural Feeling that is just a Perfect Feeling I would say. It's like you just got through exercising about an hour. Just a feel good feeling not a high feeling. When you're high you have to come down. When you take Kratom there is no comedown. It just fades away & you don't feel Depressed. You just feel normal. Nothing like it on Earth. Not A Drug DEA!
